The Historic Rum Run
October 8-10, 2020
In 1911, the first recorded offshore race in the USA was the
"79-mile Huntington Beach to Catalina Island Challenge".

In 1968, legendary racer and founder of Powerboat Magazine,
Bob Nordskog, dubbed it "The Rum Run" commemorating
an era when fast boats transported liquor into San Pedro,
Oceanside, Huntington Beach, Santa Barbara, and other
Southern California ports from offshore islands.
The Rum Run ran from 1968-1985, varying courses from
Long Beach to Malibu and Long Beach around Catalina.
In 2006, after a 21-year hiatus, the Rum Run returned to
Long Beach utilizing the classic race course to Catalina and back.

This year the Rum Run course starts and finishes at the
Huntington Beach Pier racing around Catalina.
Sanctioned by Powerboat P1 and APBA this world class event will
establish the new world speed record in the UIM record books!
